Gluten Free Garage At Wychwood Barns

Artscape Wychwood Barns

(HealthCastle.com) I stumbled upon a pop up marketplace promoted on Facebook called Gluten Free Garage, described as 'all things deliciously gluten free. Like a farmers' market with a gluten-free twist'. The inaugural event took place on Sunday November 11 at the trendy and beautiful Artscape Wychwood Barns

Gluten Free Garage entrance bannerIt was very busy when I got there in the morning, a testament to the interest and buzz around living a gluten-free lifestyle; a necessity for those with Celiac disease and the growing number of people with what appears to be non-Celiac gluten sensitivity [this includes yours truly]. The event promised to be a tasty day of shopping, sampling, and discovering what's new and exciting in the gluten-free world and the event didn't disappoint.

Some Stand Outs At The Gluten Free Garage

K's NRG Whole Food Energy Bars

These bars were a real winner for me. In the competitive market of energy bars, these stand a really good chance of being around for the long run based on taste. Bars are notoriously hit and miss and often the low-allergen versions can miss the mark when it comes to flavour, texture, mouth feel, and appearance. The bars are both wheat and gluten-free and also contains no refined sugars, preservatives, trans fat, dairy or eggs.

Key ingredients include gluten-free oats, sesame and pumpkin seeds, almonds, molasses, sprouted chia seeds and brown rice syrup. Check out their website for more details. Describing them doesn't do them justice, you have to taste them for yourself...go..run.

K's NRG bars and bites come in the following flavours

  • Original Recipe [without fruit]
  • Original Recipe With Cherries
  • Tropical Twist [Mango & Pineapple]
  • Apple and Cranberry
  • Coconut
  • Dark Chocolate

Sweets From The Earth

Not new to the gluten-free world but new to me. I'd never tried any of their products but was given one of their walnut brownies to try: delish! Colour me jaded but, judging from their postcard, I expected a less than stellar product with the list of 'low's and 'frees' that make up much of the surface. They boast a product line that is all natural, 100% vegan, dairy & egg free, peanut & nut free, gluten & wheat free, lactose free, cholesterol free, no refined sugars, non-hydrogenated , zero trans fat, low in saturated fat, GMO free, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives....I can testify that the brownie was super tasty and that it tastes as good as it looks it looks. Check out their website for the full product lineup. Keep in mind, gluten free or not, these are still desserts; gluten-free doesn't mean eat with abandon! Walntut brownie

JK Grain Free Gourmetly

I passed by this vendor quickly but they had a quite a few products including almond flour, granola, granola bars which where very good and a must-have for quick snacks, baking mixes, biscotti, muffin loaves and more. Their website

This seems like a great directory for gluten-free living. You can refine your search by country, province [right now there are five provinces listed: British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick], and area within those provinces. There are loads of categories such as:

  • Associations
  • Bakeries, baked goods & desserts
  • Caterers

  • Dietitians

and many many more...see what they're up to on FacebookTwitter and Pinterest
